Day 18 of 365: Gotham City’s Clean Face

20 01 2010

I’ve been really enjoying putting my perspective of New York into this 365 project. Shooting NYC has not been something I have ever spent a lot of time doing. I spend far more time with underwater photography, although ironically I spend far more time physically in New York. Today and tomorrow I plan on showing two faces of NYC. Today is Gotham City’s clean face…

Day 15 of 365: New York in Infrared (part 1)

16 01 2010

It’s been a while since I shot with my infrared converted camera. Of course the effect is much more noticeable when the trees have foliage, but this scene was calling to be photographed with the crisp infrared effect.

Day 13 of 365: NYC Train Tracks

14 01 2010

Today I spent 2 hours in the dentist chair, I lost count after 10 novocain shots. I wasn’t happy. My dentist is in the Bronx, and when I was a teenager I spent a lot of time down near the tracks doing…well…teenager stuff. But I digress.  I managed to muster up the little energy I had left to climb down to the tracks to create this very non-NYC looking image.

Day 11 of 365: Shoot The Freak

12 01 2010

Starting to find it hard to carve out the time for a serious shoot everyday. And it’s only day 11! It was freezing cold at Coney Island today. I felt like a freak so the image was appropriate.

Day 9 of 365: Empire State of Mind

11 01 2010

Concrete jungle where dreams are made of, There’s nothing you can’t do, Now you’re in New York,
These streets will make you feel brand new, the lights will inspire you,
Let’s hear it for New York, New York, New York… (Alicia Keys / Jay-Z)

Day 6 of 365: HDR Central Park Horses

7 01 2010

Following up yesterday’s dark image, I decided to take my camera and tripod with me to a meeting at my accountant’s office and then head to Central Park to shoot some HDR images. As luck would have it, after two bracketed 5 shot bursts my battery died and I had no spare with me! But I managed to create this image in one of those bursts. Didn’t even make it to the park…

Fashion Shoot – Images

13 04 2009

In January I posted a short behind the scenes video from a fashion shoot I did in NYC with a great model I’m working with – Masae. I never posted any of the final images, I figured I’d take the chance to do so now.  Hope you enjoy…

Holidays With The NY Underwater Photographic Society

5 12 2008

When you’re into such a specific niche like underwater photography, it’s always nice to find birds of a feather to hang out with. That’s why we started the NYUPS in April of 2007, which has grown to a loosely defined group of about 200 with a hardcore group of about 50 local underwater photographers from NY, NJ, CT and PA, who come together once a month to network and discuss underwater photography. On Dec 2nd we hosted  a small holiday party, which was a lot of fun.

Every so often we host a big event, such as the David Doubilet event in March of 2008, where we get over 200 attendees and fill a really nice theater. I’m really happy to be able to spend time with others that share my unique passion for underwater imagery. If you’re in the tri-state area and want to come to one of our monthly meetings, there is no cost, and the website is built on a social networking platform you can participate from afar as well. Hope to see you online or at an event!
